Types of Personal POA

Personal POAs cover different areas of your life, and the type you need depends on what you want your representative to do. There are eight types of personal POA: general POA, property POA, vehicle POA, court case POA, inheritance POA, police clearance POA, child travel POA, and special POA. 

General POA

Grants broad authority to manage everyday matters on your behalf, from banking to dealing with government departments.

Property POA

Lets an agent buy, sell, lease, or manage real estate for you, covering contracts and the paperwork a property deal requires.

Vehicle POA

Authorizes someone to register, sell, or transfer a car on your behalf, including the paperwork required by the transport authorities.

Court Case POA

Lets a lawyer or representative appear in court for you, covering filings, hearings, and the case from start to finish.

Inheritance POA

Police Clearance POA

Grants authority for one specific task, such as signing a single contract, and it expires once that task is done.

Cost of a Personal POA in the UAE

It costs between AED 200 and AED 1,500 to get a personal Power of Attorney in the UAE. The final cost depends on the type of POA, the notarizing authority, and whether the POA needs to be used outside the country.

The costs can be broken down into: 

  • Drafting: Depends on the provider
  • Translating: AED 150 - AED 300
  • Notarization: AED 165 - AED 400 (depends on the provider)

Additionally, if your Power of Attorney needs to be attested by a foreign ministry, it will cost around AED 150 – AED 400, depending on the authority.

Documents Required for a Personal Power of Attorney

A personal POA in the UAE requires proof of identity, a clear draft of the powers being granted, and supporting documents depending on the type of POA. These are the documents you need to get a personal POA:

  • Passport and Emirates ID of the principal and agent
  • Title deed or property documents, for a property POA
  • Vehicle registration card, for a vehicle POA
  • Draft POA outlining the specific powers granted
  • Court case reference or file number, for a court case POA
  • Arabic translation, if the original document is in another language

Rohan started his career in the banking and financial services industry working across departments with some of the finest institutions like the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, ANZ, National Australia Bank and Commercial Bank of Dubai.

Prior to starting Momentum Consultancy, Rohan worked as a Trade and Investment Director with the Australian Federal Government, where he was responsible for attracting and facilitating foreign direct investment in the fintech, energy, mining and sectors between the UAE/GCC and Australia. With vast experience set across businesses and regions, he has helped multiple businesses scale in the region and across continents.

Rohan holds a Master of Business Administration from La Trobe University (Melbourne, Australia) majoring in Management Fundamentals, Marketing and Finance.
